Swimming for Laurie Otto Putland, 13-year-old Welsh national swimming champion, was so moved by the story of Laurie’s illness and death that he has dedicated all his public appearances to fund-raising. Otto, who lives near Hereford,was struck by the parallels between his own life and Laurie’s: both of them had a passion for all kinds of sport, and both had an adopted younger sister.
